Wigan Awake! Prayer and Vision Meetings

This is your invitation to get involved in Wigan Awake! - An initiative to reach out to our town with the good news and love we find in Jesus Christ.

The centrepiece will be an event at Robin Park Sports Centre on  Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th July at 7.30pm. It will be a time for the church to show unity and minister dynamically in the power of God.

Top speakers the Rt. Rev. James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool and Gram Seed of Sowing Seeds Ministries will share messages of hope and freedom in Christ, and there will be opportunities for ministers from Wigan churches to pray for faith, healing and equipping for all those who seek it.

Wigan Awake! is more than just a one-off event. It is about seeing the church in Wigan revived, and so will be underpinned in prayer. If you long to see more of God's gracious favour in our town, please get involved, not just the event, but also the prayer meetings.

Prayer Meetings will be held:

Monday 16th April. 7.30pm At Queens Hall Methodist Mission, Market Street, Wigan

Monday 14th May. 7.30pm At Greenhough Christian Fellowship, Coop St, Scholes, Wigan

Monday 18th June. 7.30pm At St. Paul's, Goose Green, Wigan

Church Yard Maintenance Team

We generally meet between the months of March and September every Saturday morning from 10.00 am to 12noon. The idea is to keep the grounds in general good order and rectify any problem that may come up, i.e. Relaying loose or damaged flags on the path, pruning trees, clearing away dead or damaged rubbish from of graves. Any thing that needs doing that we are able to do ourselves.

At the moment there are just about 5 of us, and we don’t have any special skills, but really enjoy getting together in the fresh air and having a laugh and putting the world to rights while going about our work. It can be great fun and physically tiring but also very rewarding.

We would love to have your help with this worthwhile task, and don’t worry if you can’t make it every week, we don’t have any hard set rules, just come when you can.

Book-Cycle at Beech Hill

'Book-Cycle' has stepped into the shoes of Beech Hill library which was closed following government cutbacks.

Book-Cycle relies on donated books and volunteers. If you want a book, you decide the price and you place the money in a donations box.

The founder of Book-Cycle was born in Wigan, and although he now lives in Exeter was shocked when he heard the first library he used to visit with his grandma was to close. He decided to do what he could to save it.

When fully operational Book-Cycle will feature a 'Seed Bank' a Permaculture Garden, Skills Swaps, Workshops, Tree Planting and More.

Books are also sent to the developing world to support education. You can see some projects by CLICKING HERE

The constitution of Book-Cycle does not permit ANYONE being paid for any services, and that includes its founder. You can rest assured that all donations are used to better the community, the environment and the developing world.

If you have any books you would like to donate you can leave them at the back of church and clearly mark them 'Book-Cycle', or you can deliver them to Beech Hill Library, Buckley St West (off Gidlow Lane) .

If you love books and are a volunteer, you'll get to them first!
